Training Newsletter – February 2018
We have another busy year ahead with our functional safety training. Our scheduled course dates are set (full Functional Safety Training Course dates list) and a number of custom training courses booked in for companies at their premises.
Here’s an overview of what’s going on in 2018.
Introduction to Functional Safety
The 1-day Introduction to Functional Safety course is available during 2018 in 6 locations. Course details, dates and locations are available here:
Introduction to Functional Safety (IEC 61508)
The course can also be conducted at your company premises if there are enough candidates that require training. Please ask us for a quote: training@esc.uk.net.
TÜV Courses & Training Bundle
This year we have decided to expand the locations where we deliver our TÜV FS Engineer course. Our traditional locations of Humberside, London and Warrington remain on the calendar with new locations in Bristol, Glasgow and Copenhagen allowing for lower travel costs dependent upon your location.
In addition to the new locations we are now offering a Functional Safety Training Bundle. You can attend the Introduction to Functional Safety (IEC 61508) course and the TÜV FS Engineer course at a discounted rate. We’ve found this can be helpful for those who meet the minimum requirements of the TÜV FS Engineer course but who need a refresher in some aspects of the safety lifecycle or reinforcement of the fundamentals. You get a £200 discount when purchased together.
We posted a full announcement on our blog, so head there for full details: Training Announcement February 2018.
Safety Software Course
The two-day Software Safety training course to IEC 61508-3 has had sufficient interest that we are holding a public course in Warrington. The course is aimed at providing details on the requirements of the standard when developing software and application programming within software-based systems.
The course is being held in Warrington, UK on 21st / 22nd March and there are limited places remaining so book now to avoid disappointment.

New Technician Courses
The new technician courses are in advanced development. We are entering a working group to finalise the modules.
The courses are being developed by ESC Ltd for the CompEX scheme. These will be the first Functional Safety modules under the scheme and we are very excited to be working with JTL Limited.
The modules will consist of:
- Foundation Course
- Practical Course (covering installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance phases of the IEC 61511 Safety Lifecycle).
Once we have more specific details we will be in touch, but in the meantime please register your interest at training@esc.uk.net.
