Process Safety Management (PSM) – 2 Days Training

Software safety training course details the principles of functional safety to the development & assessment of safety-related software systems to IEC 61508Purpose

This two‑day training course provides a structured and practical introduction to Process Safety Management (PSM), supported by real‑world major accident case studies and interactive workshops.

The course is designed to enhance understanding of major accident hazards, recognised risk assessment techniques, Safety Case development, and the leadership behaviours required to manage major hazard operations safely and effectively.

The content aligns with recognised good practice, including CCPS Risk‑Based Process Safety, the Energy Institute PSM Framework, and UK regulatory expectations such as COMAH and offshore Safety Case regulations.

Course Learning Objectives

On completion of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Explain the purpose and principles of Process Safety Management
  • Distinguish clearly between process safety and occupational safety
  • Identify and assess major accident hazards using recognised methodologies
  • Apply HAZID, HAZOP, Bowtie, LOPA, QRA, and ALARP concepts
  • Understand the intent, structure, and regulatory role of Safety Cases
  • Identify Safety Critical Elements (SCEs) and define performance standards
  • Recognise the influence of leadership, culture, competence, and contractor management on process safety performance
  • Apply lessons learned from historic major accidents to their own operations
