Functional Safety (FS) for Technicians – Proposed CompEx modules

Engineering Safety Consultants to deliver new Functional Safety for Technician’s CompEx modules providing Functional Safety knowledge in the safety lifecycle
ESC is excited to be working in an exclusive arrangement with JTL Ltd to create and deliver the new Functional Safety for Technician’s CompEx modules.
Electrical, Control and Instrumentation technicians are an important group in the maintaining of Safety Related Systems. The purpose of the new CompEx modules is to provide Functional Safety knowledge and core competency validation for technicians in support of their duties associated with the safety lifecycle.
Based on the international standard IEC 61511 “Functional safety – Safety instrumented systems for the process industry sector”, the proposed phases covered by the course instruction include: installation, commissioning, validation, operation, maintenance, modification, and decommissioning of the safety related systems.
Foundation Course
The intention of the foundation course will be to provide a broad understanding for technicians and process operators.
Practitioner (technician) course
The aim of the practitioner (technician) course is to provide a more in-depth understanding as well as assessments (theory and practical) to support the learning and provide verifiable evidence of core competency.
The certification body responsible for CompEx, JT Limited are in the process of setting up a working group of key stakeholders to provide support and direction for the modules. JT Limited are seeking EEMUA member representation from the Instrumentation and Control Committee to help facilitate this.
