Engineering Safety Consultants (ESC) Limited enhances its range of training programmes for the functional safety community
London, 4th February 2015 – ESC Limited has just announced a number of additions to its series of training programmes that deliver valuable insight to its customers and provide up-to-date information on issues relevant to functional safety and associated fields. The training courses are conducted by high calibre consultants with outstanding knowledge and experience in their respective fields and are designed to help companies improve safety and compliance, increase productivity and reliability, and enhance overall business performance.
The new courses, available immediately, are:
This one-day course will focus on the generic standard IEC 61508, which is a key cornerstone of sector and other related standards
An intensive two-day course designed to provide those involved in HAZOPs and Safety Integrity Level (SIL) determination exercises with an in-depth understanding of the fundamental principles of functional safety enabling them to make informed judgements concerning risk parameters and design options relating to the Safety Instrumented System
A less intensive variant of the two-day course, designed to allow more time for interaction with delegates, and providing an additional workshop
Of particular importance in the operation and maintenance phase of Safety Instrumented Systems is the concept of Proof Testing. This one-day course is designed for technicians, plant managers, control and instrumentation engineers and other that have responsibility for managing Safety Instrumented Systems and undertaking Proof Testing.
Also released today is the timetable of course availability and a price list. Courses will be held in ESC Limited’s outstanding training facilities at the company’s business complexes in Warrington and Doncaster.

About the Course Tutors
ESC Limited’s courses are delivered by a number of highly experienced functional safety consultants. The overall training programme is designed and managed by Ron Bell, OBE, BSc (Hons), CEng and FIET.
About Ron Bell, OBE, BSc (Hons), CEng, FIET
From 1992 until May 2006, Ron Bell was head of the Electrical and Control Systems Group in the Health and Safety Executive (the UK Safety Regulator). In 1998 he was appointed as one of the five UK members of the binational Channel Tunnel Safety Authority, a post he held for 13 years.
He chaired one of the two IEC working groups responsible for developing IEC 61508 and also chaired one of the two teams responsible for the recent revision of IEC 61508. He is currently the chair of one of the two IEC Maintenance Teams responsible for the ongoing maintenance of IEC 61508.
In 2005 he received the IEC 1906 Award for his work on functional safety and in particular IEC 61508. He received the OBE in the Queen’s 2006 New Year Honours.
Ron has been a director of ESC Limited since 2010.
